You may have noticed the use of Bernhard Modern in several TV commercials and newspaper or magazine advertisements, e.g., Subaru. Its long ascenders, low x-height, and script like serifs make it an elegant font. This is my interpretation of this font generated from scratch. It is a complete font with the character set as defined by Apple, with the exception that three ligatures ct, st, and ff have replaced the currency, left single guillemot, and right single guillemot symbols respectively and a disk icon replaced the apple symbol.
Because of the low x-height, the font is best used at 14 points or larger for 300 dpi printers. Even thought this font is hinted, the uneven stems suggest that larger point sizes are better to see all the subtle features of the font. Lower resolution printers may require even larger point sizes. It can be used as a text font for special situations that require the feeling of sophistication or opulence.
This font is being distributed as Shareware. Ten dollars is requested for continued used of the font. For $25 (submitted with your complete mailing address) you can obtain the complete font family (Plain, Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic) in both PostScript and TrueType format with clean bit-maps and over 1,000 kerning pairs for each style. AFM files will also be included.
The font has been designed to achieve the best TrueType quality at all point sizes. Since it is hinted, it holds up well at smaller point sizes. The Italic is a true italic, not a simple oblique.
This font has not been tested at resolutions below 300 dpi. Comments would be appreciated.
